    Trafficking and exploitation impact ALL people, but many think it only affects females.  However, studies consistently find high percentages of men and boys are exploited in the sex trade. Experts estimate that close to a million people in the United States have been forced to sell sex to survive but of the 800+ organizations working against trafficking in the U.S., fewer than 2% support male-identifying clients. Male victims and survivors are often overlooked, misunderstood, stereotyped, ignored, and left without support.

    For over 30 years, people like you have been actively fighting against exploitation through partnering with EMMAUS to support the male survivors’ journey out of the sex trade, into lives of purpose and wholeness.

Male involvement in the sex trade is much higher than one might expect. A study by the U.S. Dept. of Justice found that 36% of youth involved in the sex trade were male.

The vast majority victims of trafficking and exploitation come from broken homes. Many report that they endured sexual and physical abuse, severe poverty, and involvement in the child welfare system.

Most male victims experience homelessness before they are 18 years old. Out of desperation, many are forced or coerced to sell sex in order to survive.
