Ways to Serve

It takes a community of healthy believers to help the prodigal son find his way home. Many different kinds of people with many different kinds of gifts are needed to see this vision to completion.

Volunteers are the key to our work at Emmaus Ministries. Since we first began reaching out to male street prostitutes in November of 1990, volunteers have played a crucial role in our work. They work beside us to restore these men. And their commitment to Emmaus enables us to serve a large number of men, providing them with a wide variety of services.

Individuals and groups donate their time, talents, and finances in many ways. Some volunteers work directly with the guys, while others serve in administrative or non-direct service roles. Youth groups go door to door or hold food drives for us in their churches. Small groups prepare meals for our Ministry Center and collect warm clothing for our guys. Each role is vital Volunteers often describe their service with Emmaus as a life-changing experience. The staff at Emmaus would agree. This is a Scripture that often comes to mind when describing the benefits of working with Emmaus:

"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter-when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard" (Isaiah 58:6-7).

We find that we are healed through our work with these men!

We have full and part time staff (including interns). Many have taken significant pay cuts to come and work at Emmaus-and raise their own support. Their dedication and commitment to our mission helps provide stability and long-term sustainability.

Each year, many youth, college and adult groups come to Emmaus, for one day or more of service. These servants help us in the upkeep of our Ministry Center and do special projects as needed.
