Hosting a House Event
What is an Emmaus Ministries House Event?
It's when someone opens up their home to friends and family for a time of fellowship and learning about the challenging work of Emmaus Ministries.
What would the components of a House Event be?
We are able to modify these events to fit your needs and situation. Generally, they will be comprised of a dinner/potluck or dessert reception, combined with one or more of the following:
- Presentation on the work of Emmaus by John Green, founder and Executive Director, or by another staff member.
- Stories from the Streets by Andi and Al Tauber, which uses music, storytelling, and dramatic monologue to tell the stories of the men Emmaus ministers to.
- A showing of Into The Night, a video produced by PAX TV on the work of Emmaus.
- Music by Carolyn Green, of the acoustic duo GreenChoby.
A House Event will not contain all of these. An Emmaus staff member will work with you to put together a presentation that you think will be compelling to the people you want to invite.
Why host a House Event?
Most House Event hosts believe that reaching out to men who sell their bodies on the streets, and helping them leave prostitution and follow Jesus Christ is an important mission - one that the Church should be involved in. People open their homes to friends and neighbors because they want them to hear this message in a compelling fashion, but in a comfortable and welcoming environment. A House Event provides an enjoyable evening, to be sure, but it is also thought-provoking and meaningful. As friends hear about Emmaus' work with these men, they may be challenged, inspired, and motivated to become a part of this piece of God's work in the city.
What are the requirements to hosting a House Event?
Two things are needed: a willing spirit, and space (in your home or another location) that can hold 20 to 40 (or more!) people comfortably.
How do I schedule an Emmaus House Event?
Come up with two or three dates that would work for you. (Scheduling House Events at least two or three months in advance is recommended.) Call our Development Director, indicate your interest in hosting a House Event, and give us an idea of what dates would work for you. We will check those dates with other staff members' schedules and get back to you to confirm a date that will work.
