How You Can Help

Top Ten Ways To Be Involved With Emmaus!

1. Sign up to receive our monthly newsletter
...and share it with friends and family! Each month we tell compelling stories and give people a glimpse into God's redemptive power at work in the darkest places in our culture. We offer the newsletter via both email and postal mail.

2. Become a "Fan" of Emmaus on Facebook
If you're a Facebook member, join our fan base! We update this page several times a week with info about Emmaus and prayer requests for our ministry. Check us out at www.facebook.com/emmauschicago!

3. Pray regularly for Emmaus
Pray for our men: those who've made it off the streets, those who are struggling, and those who are still lost. Pray for our staff and volunteers, that God might protect us and use us mightily in the lives of these men. If you'd like a tool for more specific prayer, sign up to receive our monthly prayer-focused email.

4. Contribute financially to Emmaus
Financial support is critical to our work. About 1,500 individuals, and dozens of churches, foundations, and organizations faithfully stand with us each year.

5. Attend an Immersion Night or an On-Site Educational Hour
Come and see! Learn more about urban ministry and caring for the poor by going out on the streets under the guidance of Emmaus staff. An Immersion Night is appropriate for anyone over the age of 18, and for groups of ten or more (individuals may join a previously-scheduled group). On-Site Educational Hours provide an opportunity for groups to learn about the work of Emmaus and about urban ministry in general.

6. Organize a "Stories from the Streets" presentation, or have an Emmaus staff member speak at your church, school, or home
Emmaus has 19 years of experience in street ministry to those on the margins of our culture, and is the only organization in the U.S. specifically dedicated to reaching out to men involved in street prostitution. We've developed "Stories from the Streets" to introduce the lives of these men to those who are unfamiliar with this issue. Through music, storytelling, and dramatic monologue, staff members Andi and Al Tauber (who are also singer-songwriters and worship leaders) encourage people to step out of their comfort zones and get involved in compassion-based ministry. "Stories from the Streets" has been performed on Moody Radio, at Focus on the Family, and at churches and colleges across the country.

7. Volunteer
Give of your time regularly to reach out on the streets, work with our guys in the Ministry Center, or lend your talents and gifts to our administrative team in the office. Or, put together a group to come and do a day of service. Skills required: a love for Christ, a burden for the poor and broken, a kind heart, and a good listening ear.

8. Sponsor a food and clothing drive
We're frequently looking for men’s underwear, socks, and coats; and for toiletries such as razors, shaving cream, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. We're also always in need of canned goods, meat, and all kinds of food for our food pantry and for the daily meals we prepare for the men. People from around the country collect these items and ship them to us! Check out our Wish List to see what items we're currently in need of.

10. Participate in an Emmaus event and help promote it within your congregation or student body, and among your friends
Emmaus holds various events throughout the year. To find out about our upcoming events, visit our "Upcoming Events" page.

10. Join our Kaio Community or intern at Emmaus
Live in Christian community and volunteer full-time for one year to serve Emmaus and learn about urban ministry. A year in Kaio includes room and board, health insurance, a public transportation card, and a $20 per week stipend. Kaio is open to anyone 18 years or older. Emmaus also hosts interns on a summer, semester, or shorter-term basis.
